A 20-year-old man in Bindura has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to rape a pregnant woman.
Robert Sebastian (39), of Withington Farm, Bindura, appeared before the Bindura Regional Magistrates' Court facing charges of attempted rape.
He was subsequently found guilty and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident happened on the 7th of August.
It is alleged that a 21-year-old pregnant woman was walking to the Foothills clinic for a routine medical check-up when she met Sebastian.
After exchanging greetings, he grabbed the woman by her jacket and pulled her into the bush.
There, he tripped her to the ground and attempted to rape her.
However, the woman managed to sweet-talk him that the two could enjoy the act since she stayed alone.
The two made their way to the woman's residence, unbeknownst to the offender that he was walking into a trap.
Upon arriving at her place, the woman alerted her husband and neighbours, who apprehended the offender and handed him to the police.
