The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has since arrested NetOne Cellular (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Raphael Mushanawani, on allegations of fraud involving more than US$1.2 million.
ZACC said the case stems from a 2022 decision by the state-owned mobile operator to hire Farevic Systems (Pvt) Ltd to replace its SAGE 1000 system with a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform under a US$3.5 million contract.
While the project was still underway, Mushanawani allegedly worked with a senior finance official, Christopher Muchechemera, to hire Lunartech Solutions (Pvt) Ltd to upgrade the SAGE 1000 system which was already due to be replaced at a cost of US$257,600.
According to investigations, Mushanawani later signed two additional contract addenda that pushed the cost of the upgrade to about US$1.2 million without the approval of NetOne’s executive committee or board.
It is further alleged that the CEO also entered into an unapproved US$79,467 contract with Diztech (Pvt) Ltd for consultancy and training services already covered under the original Farevic deal.
Mushanawani is expected to appear in the Harare Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to face the fraud charges.
