
Midlands- Gweru Local Authority (GCC) has received a consignment of new service vehicles, which were procured using council resources. The new fleet includes three Nissan trucks and an 18-seater minibus, all at a cost of US$ 165,000.
Speaking during his reception speech at the commissioning of the fleet, Gweru Mayor, Cllr Martin Chivhoko, said the development was essential in enhancing operations with the community.
He further says the vehicles were expected to support council workers in rendering services to the people.
“We have acquired vital assets which will enhance our operations and service delivery. These strategic investments demonstrate our commitment and productivity in meeting the evolving needs of our community.
“Our internal funding has enabled us to make these investments showcase our prudence and team’s dedication in driving the institution’s commitment to developing the city. These assets demonstrate the council’s efforts to improve service delivery to its people as well as striving for excellence,” Chivhoko said.
Meanwhile, residents expressed gratitude over the development, calling for the council to invest more in other essential services such as road rehabilitation and water supply to cater for the growing population.
Recently, the City purchased two ambulance vehicles as part of its emergency disaster response plan, a move which has eased the city’s emergency response systems
