
A devastating fire incident which occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, around 10 pm in Rutendo, Redcliff's Makokoba Street, claimed the lives of three children who were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports, four children were left alone at home while their grandmother attended a church service in Mbizo, Kwekwe.
It is believed a candle was allegedly lit due to a power outage while the children were sleeping on a bed. When the electricity was restored around 10 pm, fire was then spotted, but unfortunately, three minor children did not survive the blaze, while a 2-year-old managed to escape.
Four children were left home alone, and a candle was lit due to the power outage. The fire broke out when the power was restored, claiming the lives of three children who died in their sleep.
"Miraculously, a 2-year-old child survived by escaping outside when the fire started," an eyewitness said.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police, City of Redcliff Council, and the Fire Brigade attended the scene, and more investigations are still underway.
Meanwhile, the value of the damaged property could not be ascertained by the time of the incident.
