  • Zimbabwean government urged to quickly embrace E- E-governance systems.

Gweru- The Government of Zimbabwe has been urged to speed up e-governance systems in order to improve the provision of services and craft measures which are effective in combating corruption.

The clarion call comes as public officials in government institutions are often singled out in corrupt dealings.

A Non-Governmental Organisation ( NGO) , Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ)'s Executive director, Tafadzwa Chikumbu says concerns of data costs and access to imternet continue to affect the establishment of the e-governance systems in most public institutions.

“I believe e-governance is the way to go, not only in land management, but across all sectors of governance. If the government is deliberate in equipping its institutions, particularly with software and hardware, it will help  in spearheading  e-governance systems

“This includes all government departments, parastatals and local authorities. I believe that the government should invest in technology as e-governance is not software-centred but hardware as well," he said.

He also says automation and e-governance limit the human interface.

Meanwhile, the Association of Rural District Councils in Zimbabwe( ARDCZ) Secretary General, Isaac Matsilele, however, says land management issues in the country have raised eyebrows across various stakeholders.

“Land management in Zimbabwe has a lot of issues, but it is only when we come together as practitioners and academia.

"We need to merge theory and practice, that we can find lasting solutions" he said

They were speaking at an engagement on specialised land management, which was hosted by Transparency International Zimbabwe in partnership with the Midlands State University’s Centre for Public Policy and Devolution.
