  • Authorities in Zimbabwe have given illegal night vendors a strict 48-hour deadline to leave undesignated trading areas. The directive, issued by the government, aims to restore order in cities and towns where unregulated vending has surged.

Officials cite concerns over hygiene, security, and the disruption of formal businesses as key reasons for the crackdown. Many of these vendors operate in unsafe conditions, lacking proper sanitation, while some areas have become hotspots for criminal activity.

Local authorities, with the help of law enforcement, are expected to enforce the order immediately. Vendors have been urged to relocate to designated market areas where they can operate legally.

This move is part of a broader effort to clean up urban spaces and ensure businesses operate under proper regulations. However, some vendors argue that the lack of affordable and accessible trading spaces leaves them with few alternatives.
