
The late ZESA Holdings Executive Chairperson Dr Sydney Gata, who died on Thursday, has been accorded National Hero status, with burial arrangements set to be announced in due course.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa says Dr Gata is a man of high integrity and a giant in the country’s energy sector.
He was speaking at the Gata family residence in Borrowdale, Harare, on Saturday.
ZANU PF Politburo members from various provinces, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, Deputy Ministers, and senior government officials joined President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Gata residence to pay their respects.
Addressing mourners, President Mnangagwa said the late Dr Gata was a brilliant individual with high integrity who contributed immensely to the country’s energy sector.
Dr Gata, who died after a short illness, was 79.
